What Does The Qur’an Say About Jesus of Nazareth?

22 Aug

The name of Jesus is mentioned 25 times in the Holy Qur’an; whereas the name Muhammed is mentioned only 4 times.

One of the shorter chapters in the Qur’an is named Muhammed, so that makes it 5 times.

if Muhammed had been the ‘author’ of the Qur’an; wouldn’t he have written his name, more times than Jesus (25 times) and Moses (107 times.)

Below are the short passages in the Holy Qur’an where Jesus’ name is mentioned.

(The following information is from http://www.Islam101.com):

With The Name of The One True *G-D, The Merciful Benefactor, The Merciful Redeemer

“..**WE gave Jesus the son of Mary clear Signs and strengthened him with the Holy Spirit”

Chapter 2:87

“..O Mary! G-D gives you Glad tidings of a Word from HIM: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary..”

Chapter 3:45

“..Christ Jesus the son of Mary was an Apostle of G-D..”

Chapter 4:171

“..And in their (previous Prophets) footsteps WE sent Jesus the son of Mary..”

Chapter 5:49

“And Zakariya and John and Jesus and Elias: all in the ranks of the righteous:”

Chapter 6:85

Jesus – His Titles (in Qur’an)

Though Jesus is mentioned by name in twenty-five places in the Holy Qur’an he is also addressed with respect as:

“Ibne Maryam” – son of Mary;

as Masi (Heb) Messiah – translated as Christ;

“Abd-ullah” servant of ***Allah;”

Rasul -Ullah” – Messenger of Allah.

He is spoken of as “the word of G-D”, as “the spirit of G-D”, as a “Sign of G-D”, and numerous other epithets of honour spread over fifteen different chapters.

The Holy Qur’an honours this mighty Messenger of G-D, and the Muslims have not fallen short over the past fourteen hundred years in doing the same.

There is not a single disparaging remark in the entire Qur’an to which even the most jaundiced among the Christians can take exception.

Below is the longest sections of Quranic verses containing G-D’s Commands and conversation with Jesus:

With The Name of The One True G-D, The Merciful Benefactor, The Merciful Redeemer

…Then will The One True G-D say: “O Jesus the son of Mary!”

“Give an account of MY Blessings to you and to your mother.”

“Behold! I strengthened you with the Holy Spirit, so that you did speak to the people in childhood and in maturity.”

“Behold! I taught you the Divine Revelations and Wisdom, the Law (Torah) and the Gospel.”

“And behold! you made out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, by MY permission, and you breathed into it and it became a bird by MY permission, and you healed those born blind, and the lepers, by MY permission.”

“And behold! you brought forth the dead by MY permission.”

“And behold! I did restrain the Children of Israel from (violence to) you when you did share with them the Clear Messages, and the ungodly (and religious hypocrites) among them said: ‘This is nothing but evident magic.’”

“And behold! I inspired your disciples to have faith in ME and My Messenger. They said, ‘We have faith, and do you bear witness that we bow to The One True G-D as those who have submitted.’”

Behold! your disciples, said: “O Jesus the son of Mary! can your Lord-Creator send down to us a table set (with nourishment) from Heaven?”

Said Jesus to them: “Be sincerely conscious of the One G-D, if you have faith.”

They said: “We only wish to eat thereof and satisfy our hearts, and to know that you have indeed told us the Truth; and that we ourselves may be witnesses to the miracle.”

Said Jesus the son of Mary: “O’ Merciful G-D, our Guardian-Lord!”

“Send us from Heaven a table set (with nourishment), that there may be for us – for the first and the last of us – a solemn festival and a Sign from YOU; and provide for our sustenance, for YOU are the best Sustainer (of our needs).”

G-D said: “I will send it down unto you: But if any of you after that reject faith, I will punish him with a penalty such as I have not inflicted on any one among all the peoples.”

And behold! G-D will say: “O Jesus the son of Mary! Did you say unto men, ‘worship me and my mother as gods’ to detract (mankind) from worshipping The One G-D?”

He will say: “Glory to YOU! never could I say what I had no right (to say).”

“Had I said such a thing, YOU would indeed have known it.”

“YOU knows what is in my essence, though I know not what is in Yours. For YOU Alone, knows in full all that is hidden.”

“Never said I to them anything except what YOU did command me to say, which was, ‘worship The One G-D, my Guardian-Lord and your Guardian-Lord.’”

“And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them; when YOU did take me away (from them), YOU were the Watcher over them, and YOU are The Witness to all things.”

“If YOU do punish them, they are YOUR servants: If YOU do forgive them, YOU are The Exalted in Power, The Wise.”

G-D will say: “This is a Day on which the Truthful will profit from their Truth: theirs are Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,- their eternal Home:”

G-D well-pleased with them, and they with The One G-D. That is the great salvation, (the fulfillment of all desires).

To G-D does belong the dominion of the Heavens and the Earth, and all that is therein, and it is HE WHO has power over all things.

(End of verses from the Holy **Qur’an)

As said before, Jesus of Nazareth is mentioned numerous times in the Holy Qur’an.

In fact, Jesus’ name is mentioned more times in the Qur’an than is Muhammed’s.

The Qur’an is the Divine Revelation from The Creator, that was revealed to Muhammed the son of Abdullah, who lived in Arabia, in the 7th century.

This Revelation was given to him by the Angel Gabriel over a 23 years time period.

Muhammed, just like the majority of Arabs at that time; could neither read nor write.

Very few Arab at that time, knew how to read or write.

Muhammed was not literate.

He is referred to in many places in the Qur’an as being “unlettered.”

In one verse, he is described as an “unlettered Prophet sent to unlettered people.”

The one thing that distinguished Muhammed from his fellow Arabs, even before he received any of the Revelations from Gabriel; was his kindness, his compassion and his honesty towards everyone.

The majority of the Arabs during that time were very savage and barbaric.

They waged years-long tribal wars against each other for no sensible reasons.

But from a young age, Muhammed was nothing like the average Arab male.

He was not arrogant, and cocky like many of the Arab men were.

His fellow Arabs in the city, gave him the nickname ‘Al Ameen.’

The English meaning of this nickname is ‘the honest and trustworthy one.’

When some of the Arabs in his hometown, travelled outside the city; they would leave their valuable property with him for safekeeping.

They all knew, that he would not steal anything from them.

As I said above, the Qur’an is The Revealed Message from The Creator.

The Message that Muhammed received from Gabriel was sealed onto his heart and mind.

He recited it to his companions and they memorised it.

At the time of Muhammed’s death; thousands of his companions had memorised the complete Qur’an.

They had memorised it, in the same order and sequence, as they had heard it from Muhammed.

The third leader, of the Muslim community after Muhammed had passed; had the complete Qur’an written in the form of a book.

He then gathered many of those who had memorised the Qur’an.

What was written in the book, was then recited to them.

They all agreed that what was written, was exactly the way it was taught to them by Muhammed.

Many non Muslims who have never taken the time to study the history of pagan Arabia or the Holy Qur’an; erroneously say that Muhammed wrote the Qur’an.

If Muhammed wrote the Qur’an; then why are there so many places in the Qur’an where Muhammed was reprimanded by *G-D, for his mistakes and errors in judgement.

Surely if Muhammed had ‘written’ the Qur’an he would not have written about his mistakes and errors.

The Qur’an is the complete Words given to Muhammed by the Angel Gabriel.

Muhammed was not a learned man; much less a scholar.

He knew about Christians because of his caravan travels to Syria.

He never spent any great length of time in Syria, to become fully acquainted with the teachings of Christianity or Judaism.

What is revealed in the Qur’an about Judaism and Christianity is Revelation from The All-Mighty Creator of the Heavens and Earth.

Any intelligent person who truly believes in the Lord-Creator of the Heavens and Earth; should want to read this Revelation called the Holy Qur’an from G-D for themselves.

Also they should read for themselves an authentic account of Prophet Muhammed’s life.

Not just parrot the negative things he or she, has heard others say or write about the Holy Qur’an and Prophet Muhammed.

Intelligent men and women, should do their own research.

They shouldn’t just rely on media reports and hate speech from ignorant people.

*G-D instead of god which spelt backwards is dog. This is not a respectful spelling of a word to be used in reference to the Lord-Creator of the Heavens and Earth.

** WE in the Qur’an is a reference to G-D’s Angels. They are responsible for the management of all creation. They are totally obedient to G-D’s Commands. They do as HE commands them.

***Allah despite what many Muslims believe is the Title of our Creator not HIS Name.

Allah means The One and Only True G-D.

Allah says in the Holy Qur’an that HE has many beautiful NAMES.

And that Humanity can call on HIM by any of HIS Names.

HE does not have just One Singular Name.

Beautiful Names such as (in English):

The Most Merciful

The Most Compassionate

The Protector

The Forgiver

The Subduer

The Watcher

The Mighty

The Source of Peace

The All-Knowing

The All-Seeing

The Judge

The Resurrector

The Most High

And 86 other Names of our Creator, as Revealed in the Holy Qur’an.

With The Name of The One True *G-D, The Merciful Benefactor, The Merciful Redeemer

And convey unto others what is sent of this Divine Revelation unto you, and establish regular Prayers:

for Prayers restrains from shameful and unjust deeds; and remembrance and reverence of The One G-D is the greatest (thing in life) without doubt.

And The One True G-D knows all the (deeds) that you do.

And do not argue with the People of the earlier Revelations (Jews and Christians), except in a most kindly manner, unless it be with those of them who inflict wrong (and injury through violence):

but say, “We believe in the Revelation which has come down to us and in that (Torah, Gospel) which came down to you; Our G-D and your G-D is ONE (and the same); and it is to HIM that we have all surrendered to.”

And thus (it is) that **WE have sent down this Revelation from On High unto you.

And those to whom WE have entrusted this Revelation believe in it, just as some among the People of the earlier Revelations (Jews and Christians) believe in it, as also do some of these (pagan Arabs):

and none could knowingly reject OUR Messages, unless it be such as would deny (an obvious) Truth:

And you were not (able) to ***read a Book before this (Revelation came), nor are you (able) to transcribe it with your right hand: In that case, indeed, would the talkers of vanities have doubted.

Nay, here are Signs self-evident in the hearts of those endowed with knowledge: and none but the unjust reject OUR Signs.

Yet the rejecters  say: “Why are not (miraculous) Signs sent down to him from his Lord-Creator?”

Tell them: “The (miraculous) Signs are indeed with The One G-D, and I am indeed a clear Warner.”

And is it not enough for them that WE have sent down to you this Revelation which is rehearsed to them?

Verily, in it is Mercy and a Reminder to those who believe (in G-D).

Say: “Enough is The One G-D for a witness between me and you: HE knows what is in the Heavens and on Earth.

And it is those who believe in what is false and vain and thus continue to reject G-D; it is they that will perish (in the end).

They ask you to hasten on the Punishment (for them): had it not been for a fix term appointed, the Punishment would certainly have come to them: and it will certainly reach them,- all of a sudden, while they are not aware!

They ask you to hasten on the Punishment: but, of a surety, Hell will encompass the Rejecters of Faith!-

On the Day that the Punishment shall cover them from above them and from below them, and (a Voice) shall say: “Taste (now the fruits of) your own doings!”

O MY servants who believe! truly, spacious is My Earth: therefore serve you ME – (and ME Alone)!

Every Human Being shall have a taste of death (and) in the end unto US shall all be brought back.

But those who believe and work deeds of righteousness – to them shall WE give a Home in Heaven,- lofty mansions beneath which flow rivers,- to dwell therein for ever;- an excellent reward for those who do (good)!-

Those who persevere in patience, and put their trust, in their Guardian-Lord and Cherisher.

How many are the creatures that carry not their own sustenance? It is G-D who feeds (both) them and you: for HE hears and knows (all things).

(Verses from the Holy Qur’an)

*G-D instead of god which spelt backwards is dog. This is not a respectful spelling of a term to be used in reference to the Lord-Creator of the Heavens and Earth.

**WE, US, OUR are references in the Holy Qur’an to all of the forces of power (Angels) under the control of The Creator. They manage all creation. They are totally obedient to The All-Mighty G-D, and obeys HIS Commands without question.

***The Prophet Muhammed did not know how to read or write. He is referred to elsewhere in the Qur’an as being “unlettered.”
